OGK CO., LTD. was established in 1948, when there were no plastic products. The Company manufactured celluloid grips. Plastic began to appear in around 1955, and the president tried and tried to apply the material to grips.
In 1959, development of a grip, which was moderately elastic, had good contact with the bicycle handlebars, and did not easily come off was completed. The grip was produced at a speed of one-set/30 seconds using injection molding, and it spread to all parts in Japan. There were once 22 grip manufacturers in Japan, but they could not keep up with OGK's technical know-how, and at present the company's market share is 85% in Japan.
Gripping is a very ordinary action, but in some conditions it can be difficult. OGK carefully verifies factors such as safety, ease of operation, and durability to improve product quality, and has been developing new models in cooperation with bicycle manufacturers and plastic material suppliers. Champion cyclists Hashimoto and Nakano both use helmets produced by OGK and other products include baskets, dress-guards, fenders, chain cases, protectors, gear covers, and other bicycle articles. The company's ceramic fiber wheels originally developed for BMX bikes are very colorful and have changed the img of the bicycle. In addition, OGK makes rattan-like baskets containing natural wood powder that are rust proof, strong, light, dust resistant, and resistant static buildup, and an extensive range of other products.
